Editor’s note: We are very happy to share with you the second short film, Natural Building,  in Lauren and Phil’s new series Living with the Land for Permaculture Magazine.

skH8gt2PNatural buildings are an ancient tradition with a modern appeal. Creating healthy, beautiful homes from natural materials such as earth, straw and timber, building naturally is the ultimate expression of ecological design. Building isn’t ‘done’ to us – it can be done by us. The skills and techniques used in natural building are hands-on and accessible, enabling us all to design our own healthy living spaces bringing people and the elements together.

The UK has a rich tradition of natural building and natural architecture that is seeing a renewed interest. Building naturally is one such response to Living With The Land.

Kevin McCloud, a Channel 4 presenter well known for the TV series Grand Designs, introduces part 2 of Living with the Land – ‘Natural Building’.

We will be releasing one film a week until September to coincide with the build-up to the 12th International Permaculture Conference taking place in London on 8th – 9th September 2015, hosted by the Permaculture Association.

The series of films showcase the people and projects that practise real, working alternatives to the ecologically unsound and principally unsustainable practices of conventional agriculture and mainstream housing in the UK. These inspiring, best practice permaculture projects and people explore topics such as large-scale, regenerative agriculture, forest gardening, urban permaculture, and natural building.

Please watch this space for each film week by week: Permaculture People.

Permaculture People are film makers and communicators, Phil Moore and Lauren Simpson. Having spent two years travelling overland through Central and South America working and volunteering at permaculture projects they decided to continue their travels back in the UK. Seeing the richness and variety of practical solutions and sustainable designs across the UK they were inspired to share those stories.
